The year is 1974 and Dr. James Prate establishes ‘Prate Family Eye Care’ with a vision to own and operate a community-based eye care practice that would rest on the values of commitment, excellence, and care.
Being second generation of Italian descent, having a father of 10 siblings and having been raised in Pennsauken, NJ, Dr. Prate focused heavily on family values. He chose Gloucester Township to set up shop, as it was growing into a thriving suburb with vibrant opportunities. He and his wife Ronnie, a licensed optician, started as the initial employees, working hard to make the business a staple for the community. He went on to hire his first outside employee, Carol Hurdle, who soon became an invaluable asset to the practice, staying on for 35 years, and retiring as office manager.
Dr. Brett is extremely grateful for the enduring legacy crafted by his father. He is profoundly appreciative to have had the opportunity to take the reins of the successful practice. The foundation his father laid and the values instilled have been his guiding light, allowing Dr. Brett to navigate and build upon the solid groundwork Dr. Prate created. The trust of the loyal patients and the dedication of the talented team are testaments to the resilience of the business.
Dr. Brett is committed to continuing the tradition of excellence that defines Prate Family Eye Care’s legacy in the optometry world. In celebrating 50 years of optical excellence, we express deep appreciation to our remarkable staff and the generations of families who have chosen us as their trusted partner in preserving and enhancing the precious gift of vision.
Here's to the past, present, and future of nurturing healthy eyes and happy smiles.
